Janik’s current research-creation project explores the historical relationship between humans and pigeons, and how these relationships have transformed over time.
This body of work will question the accessibility of connecting with nature in urban environments, and how low income communities are disproportionately affected by rising transportation costs, recreation expenses, health concerns and time constraints among others. This body of work will explore how the understanding and appreciation of pigeons can provide accessible opportunities for enhancing this connection within urban environments.
This work examines the ways in which pigeons have been domesticated over time, and how this relationship has shifted with advances in architecture, communication, and farming technologies. It will investigate feral pigeons roosting behaviors before and after domestication, and the role that humans play in their roosting habits.
